Super Summer Glow

The time has finally come for me to put down all my wintery makeup and drag out my stash of bright summer colours filled with shimmer. It looks like the sun is here to stay which means I am back into wearing all shades of nude, gloss and glitter. I thought I'd show off my five favourite products packed full of shimmer to help create that gorgeous summer glow!

Benefit High Brow
This is probably one of my favourite brow highlighters because it's such a gorgeous pearl shade with a super subtle metallic shimmer, perfect for adding extra depth to your brows, as well as an inner corner highlight for your eyes. Sometimes I even slick a little on my cupids bow to make my lips pop.

No7 Stay Perfect Shade and Define- Pink Pearl
I'm heading back to my roots with this one- pretty much my entire makeup collection used to be No7 and this is one little beauty that has stuck around. This gorgeous stick eye shadow smooths onto the lid beautifully and brightens up the eyes without looking too pink.

Lush Radiant
This stunning shimmery powder can be used as both an eye shadow and a highlight. I love the metallic silver shade that has lashings of silver and gold glitter throughout. This looks perfect as an inner corner highlight, or swept all over the lid for a bold evening look.

Hawaiian Tropic Lip Gloss- Island Berry
This is the only item on the list to not feature shimmer, but instead it is crazily glossy. The soft gloss makes your pout look incredible and adds a whole new dimension to your look. Not to mention, it tastes freaking amazing...just try not to lick it off!

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector- Moonstone
This is one product that sticks with me throughout all the seasons- I just adore the pale gold tones with the high level of shimmer! A quick sweep of this over my cheeks and collar bone leaves me feeling like a fairy princess.

What are your favourite products to take you from winter to summer?

April Finds

This month I thought I would go over the new things I have found in April that are going on my must-have list. This includes TV shows, clothes, makeup and food.....there will always be food on my favourites list!

Killjoys
This show is my current new favourite and I'm not ashamed to admit that I binge-watched the entire first season on Netflix within about 3 days. What can be better than a show with gorgeous costumes, fight scenes, romance, plot twists and all set within a futuristic world. I freaking adore it! A definite must watch for all you sci-fi geeks.

Loreal Paris Matte Lip
My new lippy love is the Loreal Paris Matte lipstick. I love a good matte lipstick and this one feels so nice unlike some other brands which can be a little drying. This range also comes in a gorgeous array of colours- my absolute favourite has to be the bright pink Smoke Me Up.

Primark Ballet Shoes
So before the Easter holidays I pretty much destroyed my work shoes. And by destroyed I mean the whole sole was coming off. Not pretty. Being the cheap and cheerful person that I am, I decided to pop into Primark to see if they had any replacements that wouldn't break the bank, and I was not disappointed! I bought a super cute pair of ballet flats that fit perfectly and are crazy comfy to wear day in, day out. Not to mention they make me feel like a ballerina- who wouldn't want that?

Macaroon
I'm pretty ashamed to admit this, especially as a blogger, but until last month I had never tried macaroons! I finally returned to the magical land of Disneyland Paris last month and thought it would be the perfect time to try them. I found a lovely little stall selling packs of multi-coloured Disney themed macaroons and they were delicious. So chewy and soft with the perfect filling- they are probably my new favourite snack!

What are your favourite from the last month?

Summer Looks

Happy May Bank Holiday!

I cannot believe it's already the first of May- it feels like this year is flying by! Now that it's May, it means we are officially on our way towards Summer, and I for one will be glad to get rid of this rain. I put together a few of my favourite Summer looks to show you the sort of things I'll be rocking as soon as the weather starts to heat up.

Flowing skirts, cold shoulder dresses, floral jackets and pastel trousers are all on the menu for this summer time. I like to think of it as dressing like a modern-day fairy tale princess. Minus the tiara. I only wear that one weekends.

Let me know what you think in the comments!

13 Reasons Why

13 Reasons Why is a brand new Netflix venture based around a group of teenagers coming to terms with the death of a classmate. What I find truly ground-breaking about this show is how it follows a very dark subject matter that isn't often touched upon.

Spoiler alert: Hannah Baker is dead. She committed suicide before the start of the show. What follows is the story of the events that led to her death- the 13 reasons why she chose to commit suicide. Each episode revolves around a different person that contributed to the events.

This show explores the darker side of teenage life, shining a light on how difficult teens have it these days. Cyber bullying is running rife, giving fuel to lies, gossip, body shaming, slut shaming and a whole host of other horrid paraphernalia.

"I'm not under any illusion
that this school is a
friendly place."

Little nuggets of speech from both the teens and adults in the show highlight the issues from both sides of the coin. Teenagers don't always seem to realise the harm they are causing with their negative actions, not always seeing the bigger picture that snide remarks and mean comments contribute to. Meanwhile, the adults seem to try and quash the issues without really delving into them to try to solve the underlying problems.

What I find amazing about this show is the subtle ways in which the cast and writers portray the vast range of emotions that people would feel in these situations. From guilt, to fear, to regret.

I feel that this show is fantastic at exploring the darker side of teenage life and bringing a whole host of issues to the forefront. I would hugely recommend binge-watching this show, both for the dramatic story line and for it's ability to raise awareness.

Unicorn Hot Chocolate

Unicorns are pretty much everywhere at the moment- not that I'm complaining! The majority of my accessories are unicorn themed, so when people started coming out with unicorn themed food, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. I've got a unicorn cake earmarked for my birthday and I am in love with all of the unicorn hot chocolates I've seen floating around. One of my absolute favourites has got to be the Unicorn Freak Hot Chocolate made by The Flower Cafe in Plymouth. Every time I see it popping up on my Instagram feed, I get an instant craving. So, I decided to make my own toned down version at home. It's super easy to make, incredibly pretty and absolutely delicious.

You will need:
Milk
White chocolate (I use Green and Blacks because it's super tasty)
Pink food colouring
Marshmallows
Whipped cream
Toppings (pink!)

1. Pour slightly more milk than you'll need into a pan and warm over a low heat. I use slightly more as I find some evaporates away during the heating process.
2. Add small chunks of white chocolate- I use roughly 100-150g per cup of milk. Keep stirring until all of the chocolate has melted to prevent it sticking to the pan.
3. Add a few drops of pink food colouring to create a pretty pastel colour.
4. Pour the hot chocolate into your chosen mug and add whipped cream. Decorate with your chosen toppings.
5. Enjoy!

Sunday Brunch

In my opinion, nothing beats waking up late on a Sunday, throwing on some comfy clothes and heading out for brunch. There are a huge variety of places to go in Plymouth for a delicious brunch, and one of my favourite places has to be the M&S cafe. When I think I going to a supermarket cafe for brunch, my mind always throws back to the mornings spent having a greasy fry-up in Woolworths- thankfully M&S is nothing like that!

The food they serve is super simple but deliciously so. Usually I'd go for pancakes but this time around I decided to get something different and landed on the Bacon, Egg and Cherry Tomato Bloomer. This was a thick cut piece of soft bloomer bread, topped with perfectly seasoned and delightfully creamy scrambled egg and topped with juicy cherry tomatoes and crunchy bacon. this paired brilliantly with my sparkling orange juice (the sober alternative to a mimosa!) to create a very filling brunch.

My tiny human came along with me this time for some 1:1 time and he ended up having a juice box and a ham and cheese toastie. It must have tasted good because I've never seen him that quiet and he wolfed the whole lot down! Of course, we did end up getting dessert after- Ols went for a classic cookie while I chose a super decadent Valentine's cupcake. This gorgeous creation was made up of a chocolate cupcake with a strawberry jam (I think!) centre and topped with swirls of strawberry flavoured buttercream. Safe to say I left with a very full stomach! The whole brunch was delicious and it was surprisingly calm and relaxing for somewhere that is normally so busy. If you haven't been there yet, I would definitely give it a try!

Avon Bargain Bag- Is It Worth It?

My first foray into the world of makeup began around the age of 15 when I started to use my £10 allowance each month on the Avon catalogue. at first it was thick eyeliner and spider-lashed mascara (thank you, goth me!) but it soon became much more than that. After a while I started to pick up more and more different products and experiment with colours- I even bought a brush to start applying it properly (shock horror!). It soon got to a point where I made friends who actually knew how to use makeup and they started introducing me to the world of MAC, Benefit, Urban Decay and all of the other big league brands. I still occasionally buy little bits and pieces from Avon though as their products are pretty decent and its a little bit nostalgic, like going back to my roots. One thing I always used to get was their Bargain Bag. For those Avon novices among you, the Bargain Bag was a £15 bag where you get a selection of products from the beauty, skincare and accessories ranges. I always used to love it but sometimes it could be a little hit and miss for what you get in it. Recently I decided to grab another one and find out whether the products were as good as I remember and what the value for money is with this Bargain Bag.

I have to admit, it was a little bit like Christmas morning when the bag was delivered- I couldn't wait to tear into it and find out what I had been given! Inside were 5 products- an eyeliner, a lipgloss, a bracelet, a box of nail stuff and a day cream. Just looking at value for money, this is pretty good as I would pay £15 for just one of these products, let alone 5! The eyeliner is a lovely brown shade which is gorgeously subtle for those days when I'm not feeling a full on glamorous eye. The lipgloss is probably my favourite product in the box- a delicious shade of red (very Snow White apple) and it's packed full of iridescent shimmer. As we all know, I am a complete magpie so shimmer and glitter are my ultimate favourites.

The day cream was a lovely addition to the bag. It's a great reminder that good makeup means a good base- this means taking care of your skin day in and day out with decent products. I'll be the first to hold my hands up and admit that I probably put moisturiser on once a month when I remember- don't even get my started on my lack of makeup remover (worst blogger ever!). This day cream is lovely and creamy without feeling too heavy on the skin- it also makes my skin feel so unbelievably smooth!

The last products were from the accessories range- the bracelet is adorable! I love the fringing detail and the marbling effect on some of the beads. It's one of those bracelets that definitely looks more expensive than it is (which is not a bad thing) and can be worn with pretty much any outfit. The last piece in the bag is something I probably could have lived without but it is always useful to have. The nail kit included a nail file, nail scissors and nail clippers. This is great for someone who takes real good care of their body and does their nails quite often, but as a self confessed nail biter (gross, I know) mine often get left while I work on the rest of me (like the Christmas weight gain!).

Overall, I would definitely go for the Bargain Bag again because it's a lovely surprise to see what you get, and it's a really good value for money. Let me know what you think of these products in the comments. Have you ever gotten a Bargain Bag? What did you think?
